METHODOLOGICAL INFORMATION
.................................

1. Description of the methods for collection/generation of data:

The data have been generated from the chemical analysis of seawater samples, obtained in sampling campaigns carried out within the framework of the BLUEMARO project in 3 coastal radials.
The radials were located in Tarifa, Estepona and Maro-Cerro Gordo, each with three stations. The depths of the stations in the different radial radials ranged from 4 to 20 m.

At each station, 2 to 3 water samples were taken manually with a 2L Niskin bottle, at discrete depths depending on the bottom of the station.
After collection, the samples were kept cold during their transfer to the laboratory, where they were processed to eliminate particles >0.45 microns, using syringe filters.
The samples were then frozen at -20ºC until their analysis.
The nutrient analysis was performed with an AA3 Bran-Luebbe autoanalyzer following the methodology recommended by the manufacturer and using MillQ water as washing water.

The methods used are based on previous methods described in the literature and adapted to the Brann-Luebbe AA3 autoanalyzer:

-Bower, C. E., & Holm-Hansen, T. (1980). A salicylate–hypochlorite method for determining ammonia in seawater. Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences, 37(5), 794-798.
-Grasshoff, K., Kremling, K., & Ehrhardt, M. (Eds.). (2009). Methods of seawater analysis. John Wiley & Sons.

2. Data processing methods

The raw data obtained from the analysis were corrected to account for the effects of the matrix (seawater), baseline drift (baseline correction),
as well as the deviation of the sensitivity of the method (drift) and the correction by carryover. The corrections were made using seawater standards and MilliQ water standards.
Corrections were included in the autoanalyzer's sampling protocol, and they were made using AACE 5.1 software (Brann-Luebbe)
The corrections of the matrix effect were applied to the data, once they were exported in xls format.

3. Standards and calibration information, if appropriate:

The standards used were prepared from salts of high degree of purity (analytical reagent quality) of nitrate, nitrite, phosphate, silicate and ammonium. Specifically, the following salts were used:
KNO3 (Merck), NaNO2 (Fluka), H2KPO4 (Fluka), Na2SiO4 (Fluka) and (NH4)2SO4 (Merck), which were previously treated at 110ºC for 4 hours for moisture removal.
From heavy amounts with a Sartorius balance (with an accuracy of 0.1 mg) the concentrated standards were prepared. From these, appropriate standards were prepared to perform the calibration lines of the AA3 self-analysis.
